In 2022, the TRI Foundation is pleased to offer two grant schemes in breast cancer and kidney disease research. Both grant schemes are for early to mid-career TRI-based researchers and affiiliated clinicians.

Applications are now open for both until the 5th September 2022.

TRI Foundation Breast cancer appeal emcr research grants

The TRI Foundation established a Breast Cancer Appeal fund in 2019. The TRI Foundation Board is seeking applications from EMCRs for two grants of up to $3,000 each to seed and/or support collaborative translational research in breast cancer.

Guideline for applications

  1. Applicants should be Early-Mid Career Researchers up to 10 years post-doc (with consideration for periods of absence due to career disruption).
  2. TRI-based researchers and TRI affiliates including clinicians from the TRI-linked health services (e.g. Metro South Health, Mater Health) may apply, ideally as a collaborative application with an emphasis on translation.
  3. The grants can support consumables or expenses related to undertaking clinically-aligned research, and/or to support necessary research-based travel, though not conference-related travel (e.g. travelling to recruit study participants, but not travel to attend a meeting).
  4. A review panel (chaired by Prof Ian Frazer AC), including at least two members who are breast cancer researchers based at TRI, and another independent researcher based at TRI involved in breast cancer research will assess the applications.
  5. Awards of up to $3,000 will be made to the two highest scoring applications. Applicants must be willing to present at a OneTRI Breast Cancer Mini Symposium on 13th October 2022, where a People's Choice Presentation Award valued at $300 will also be made.
  6. A grant summary (setting out how the grant funds were spent and the benefit received from the grant fund) is required at completion of the grant (250 words) and funding is to be expended by 30th September 2023. The grant summary report template will be provided by TRI.
