About me

After completing his PhD at the University of Liverpool (UK) in 1994, Dr Whitehead moved to the University of Cambridge (UK) where he began work in the area of insulin signalling, insulin resistance and obesity. In 1999 he secured an International Travelling Fellowship from the Wellcome Trust, taking up a position at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience at The University of Queensland (UQ), then the Diabetes & Obesity Research Program at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney. In 2002 he returned to UQ to take up an independent position as a Lions Senior Medical Research Fellow. In 2008 he was awarded an NHMRC Senior Research Fellowship and relocated to Mater Research in early 2010 where he heads the Metabolic Medicine Team and the Understanding and Preventing Disease Theme.
