Functional genetics approaches to autophagy in inflammatory bowel disease

About me

Dr. Jakob Begun joined MRI-UQ in February 2014. He gained a M.D.,PhD from Harvard Medical Shool where his research focussed on using C. elegans as a model to study the genetics of innate immunity and the host pathogen interaction. He went on to specialize in gastroetnerology and inflammatory bowel disease.  His research has focussed on the genetics of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) and the role of autophagy in cellular defense and inflammation. He is an active clinical gastroenterologist treating patients with IBD at the Mater Adult Hospital and his ongoing research interests are centered around the interaction between bacteria and the gut with respect to IBD.
