About me

Dr Hafner studied a Bachelor of Applied Sciences at QUT majoring microbiology and biochemistry, then undertook postgraduate studies completing an Honours degree and a PhD in virology and genetics. After completing his PhD he worked for several years as an academic researcher in the CRC for Diagnostics and then on an AusAid project with QUT looking at virus discovery and developing diagnostic assays.

Subsequently he moved into the commercial arena, working for an infectious disease diagnostic company, PanBio in the role of Vice President – Research, Development & Technical Support.  Prior to joining the UQ Diamantina Institute he was with the Wesley Research Institute as the Chief Operations Officer having responsibilities for overseeing the entire operation including administration, research, finance, human resources, marketing and fundraising together with management of the clinical trials centre and tissue bank.

 

In the position of Deputy Director (Operations) with UQDI his role is to provide strategic and operational management for the Institute. He has oversight of the institute’s support services in the areas of human resources, information technology, finance, facilities, research administration and business development.
