researchers tackle cancer one step at a time

More than 65 staff from the Translational Research Institute (TRI) have committed their support to cancer research outside of the lab, taking up the Climb for Cancer challenge on Sunday 28 May.

The team, will join hundreds of other participants with the same determination, climbing 810 steps up to the rooftop of Waterfront Place, and already they have raised almost $10,000 for cancer research.

Brisbane-based Formula Interiors are the proud presenting partner of the TRI and Mater Research wave at the event and a team from the company visited TRI this week to meet participants and discuss their important cancer research projects.

Formula Interiors CEO Gary McDonell congratulated the team on their fundraising to date and wished them well for event day as they tackle 37 floors up one of Brisbane’s iconic buildings.

“My advice is don’t start behind me as I’m a big guy and I might not let you around,” Mr McDonell said jokingly.

“On a serious note, Formula Interiors is very proud to be associated with this event and to do our bit to help raise funds for cancer research and the work that Mater is doing into the disease.

“It’s inspiring to speak with researchers and hear about incredible projects they are working on, including the work of Mater Researcher’s Ingrid Winkler into making chemotherapy safer.

“Events like Mater Foundation’s Climb for Cancer are so important and every dollar raised goes to essential cancer research projects that will benefit so many people.  We are thrilled to be a part of it,” Mr McDonell said.
