$1.5 million funding for ageing and aged care research

In December 2019 the Australian Government awarded $1.5 million funding to Prof Ruth Hubbard for The GOAL Trial: Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment for Frail Older People with Chronic Kidney Disease to Increase Attainment of Patient-Identified Goals: A Cluster Randomised Controlled Trial.

Congratulations to Prof Hubbard from UQ Faculty of Medicine and her team who will be leading this project at TRI.

The trial will implement a comprehensive geriatric assessment for frail older people with chronic kidney disease to increase attainment of patient-identified goals.

The grant is part of the Australian Government investing $22 million in research into aged care and better outcomes for older Australians.

In 2017, more than one in every seven Australians were aged 65 or over. That equates to 3.8 million people – an important and growing part of our community who may benefit from this research.

Eighteen grants have been funded across Australia, with a diverse range of research supported across the schemes.

This investment in health and medical research will place Australia at the leading edge of research in areas like genomics, and will support the search for cures and treatments including for rare cancers.
