Imagine 2016 - Symposium Abstract - How to best achieve innovation in a multi-institutional town.

Success is most easily achieved when good foundations are established among the partners.  Key elements include:

  1. Agreement on administrative structures (contracting, overhead, …).

  2. Clear rules for ownership and licensing of intellectual property.

  3. Established leadership roles for contracting, technology transfer, etc.

  4. Managing flow-through terms and conditions, which may be required by the funding agency.

  5. Defining processes, particularly for selecting joint projects.

In addition, project staff should be aware of proper procedures for protecting proprietary information and intellectual property, correct management of sensitive data such as patient information, and relevant laws and procedures for activities such as experimenting on human subjects.  Also, opportunities for workshops and skills training will be discussed briefly.
