Dr Andrew Leech

Dr Stuart Hazell is the Managing Director and Principal Consultant of Fusidium Pty Ltd.  Fusidium employs 5 people and delivers consulting services, including quality and regulatory affairs, technology assessment and business development within the medical device and life sciences sector. He has more than 35 years of experience in life science including biomedical and veterinary research, consulting and senior management roles in the public and private sectors.

Stuart has provided advice to a range on large and small enterprises on commercialisation and business development.  With a strong research background, Fusidium is a Registered Tax Agent with respect to recording keeping and activity registration for the Australian R&D Tax Incentive scheme.

Through Fusidium, Stuart is also a Commercialisation Adviser to the Federal Government’s Accelerating Commercialisation scheme, which is part of the Entrepreneurs’ Programme.

Fusidium Pty Ltd is registered as an Agent and Sponsor with the Therapeutic Goods Administration in Australia. 

Dr Andrew Leech has over fifteen years of experience in technology transfer and commercialisation from the university sector. He has successfully driven technology development and commercial transactions in a variety of industries, including: animal health, agriculture, aquaculture, bioremediation, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medical devices. He has extensive experience in preclinical and early stage clinical development of therapeutics, medical device development, regulatory and quality management systems, licensing and startup management.

Andrew has previously run the commercialisation office for James Cook University, held an executive management position with the Heart Research Institute, and held commercialisation roles with UniQuest and UoM Commercial. He has also been acting CEO for SMART Arm Pty Ltd, where he managed the redesign of a medical device to meet regulatory standards under an ISO 13485 QMS.

Andrew has a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Queensland, a Masters of Industrial Property law from the University of Technology Sydney, and is a registered Patent and Trademark attorney. For several years Andrew has sat as a Commercial Assessor on the NHMRC Development Grant panel, and has an excellent record of working with researchers to win commercial and industry grant funding.

Dr Patrick Dwyer

Dr Declan McKeveney

Declan has a PhD in chemistry and research experience in the fields of organic, biological and medicinal chemistry and pharmacology, with particular expertise in the design, synthesis and screening of combinatorial compound libraries.

Declan practises in all areas of chemistry, with a focus on pharmaceutical compounds and drug technologies. Prior to joining the IP profession, Declan worked as a research scientist for a Brisbane-based biotechnology company in the area of carbohydrate chemistry.

Declan’s experience as a research scientist enables him to create close working partnerships founded on mutual respect with all of his clients, while his enthusiasm for protecting clients’ commercial interests is the key to his strong service-based philosophy.

Declan is also committed to the on-going education and development of emerging attorneys; as well as presenting regular seminars and workshops for post-graduate students, he teaches as part of the Queensland University of Technology Master of Laws in IP course in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organisation. Declan also sits on the AusBiotech Intellectual Property (IP) Expert Panel which provides advice on IP issues relevant to the life sciences sector to AusBiotech, Australia’s peak biotechnology organisation.

Dr Patrick Dwyer

Patrick has a research background spanning molecular biology, epigenetics, cancer genetics, immunology, proteomics, genotyping, diagnostics, plant and animal physiology and crop science. Prior to joining QUT bluebox in 2015, Patrick also spent over four years in contracts and business development at QIMR Berghofer and the Baker IDI.

Patrick holds an Honours degree in Botany and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Otago. He is also a registered patent attorney, having worked in two patent law firms in Australia over four years providing intellectual property services to local companies and large multinationals across a range of technologies.

Patrick is a Commercial Manager at bluebox and is responsible for providing commercialisation support for researchers, mainly within the faculty of Science and Technology but also across a broad range of disciplines.
