TRI Foundation works with the Translational Research Institute (TRI) to develop new treatments within shorter timeframes for common and serious diseases and conditions. The activities of the TRI Foundation are to raise awareness and funds to facilitate and promote research at TRI.

YOUR IMPACT & WHAT WE DO

The TRI Foundation aims to support the important medical research conducted at TRI by helping projects get from the Translational Pathway T1 stage, where health innovations are published and patented, through to the Translational Pathway T4 and T5 stages, where projects are included into clinical practice, and the  impact on worldwide health standards are assessed. Some of projects TRI is currently assisting along the translational pathway include a new monitoring technique to manage woman's risk of breast cancer; a vaccine to create a resistance to Rheumatoid Arthritis; and a revolutionary whole body 3D avatar skin cancer detecting system.  Donations made to the TRI Foundation will cover the cost associated with getting these types of projects through to the patients to improve health worldwide.

Monetary donations allow the TRI Foundation to distribute funds to research projects, which aren’t widely marketed or media driven, but will result in much needed improvements in healthcare. All donations made to the TRI Foundation are tax deductible via the My Cause website.  A receipt will be provided for tax purposes. We thank you in advance for assisting us financially to accelerate the time it takes to bring cures and treatments to the community.

Bequest & Memorials 

 

Leave a legacy by bequeathing a donation from your last will & testament. You could fund a research program which could lead to a treatment or cure, sponsor a PhD student as they start their career in health science or purchase new equipment to get an important project off the ground. We can work with you to structure a specific program which will ensure the funds are utilised to create a legacy for yourself or a loved one. 

The preferred wording for bequests is:

"I give to the TRI Foundation Limited (ACN 167 341 479) (the residue of my estate/ % of my estate/ $………………..) free of all duties and charges, for its general purposes, for which an authorised receipt from the TRI Foundation Limited will be a sufficient discharge for the executor(s) or trustee."

Optional:  “I have chosen to make this bequest because (reason for bequest, and if applicable, connection of testator with the TRI  or the TRI Foundation)

Donate your Time 
 

Monetary donations are not the only way that you can support the important research at the Translation Research Institute (TRI).  You can also participate in a clinical trial. A trial may involve completing a survey, getting a scan or blood test. Any amount of time that you can contribute would greatly assist the medical research conducted at TRI.

BOARD CHAIR

Professor Ian Frazer works to raise awareness and funds for medical research through his role with The University of Queensland (UQ) and as Chair of the TRI Foundation Board.  He is also Chair of the Advisory Board for the Medical Research Future Fund and President of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Science.

As the founding Chief Executive Officer and Director of Research for the Translational Research Institute (TRI) in Brisbane, Australia, Professor Frazer lead the development of a world-leading biomedical research facility focused on translating scientific knowledge into practical benefits for the community. 

Internationally renowned for the co-creation of the technology for the cervical cancer vaccines, Professor Frazer began his career as a renal physician and clinical immunologist in Edinburgh, Scotland before emigrating in 1981 to Melbourne, Australia. He continued his clinical training and pursued studies in viral immunology and autoimmunity at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research with Professor Ian Mackay. In 1985, Professor Frazer accepted a teaching post with The University of Queensland. In 2006, Professor Frazer was named Australian of the Year.  In early 2011, Professor Frazer was appointed CEO and Director of Research for TRI. In February 2015, he relinquished that role to Professor Carolyn Mountford, the current TRI CEO and Director of Research.  Professor Frazer continues his research at TRI, which includes the development of a vaccine for the herpes simplex virus (HSV) and immunotherapies for head and neck cancers.

 

Dr David Watson

DIRECTOR 

Dr David Watson is Chair of the TRI Board.  He has a PhD in accounting from Ohio State University, and has previously worked as Associate Professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Professor of Accounting and Business Finance at the University of Queensland 1978-89, Head of the Department of Commerce 1978-82, and twice Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Economics. He also served in the House of Representatives as MP for Forde 1984-87. He was then elected MP for Moggill at the 1989 state election, becoming Deputy-Leader of the Liberal Party until 1992. He was appointed a Parliamentary Secretary in 1996, becoming Minister for Public Works and Housing in 1997.

Following the government's defeat at the 1998 election, he was elected Liberal Leader and retired from politics at the 2004 election. In 2004, David was appointed a Commissioner for the Commission of Enquiry into the Integrity Management Systems in the Queensland Racing Industry. David is Deputy Chair of the Board of the Queensland Competition Authority and member of the Board of Directors of Tatts Group Limited. He is also on the board of the Accounting Hall of Fame (USA).

David has also been a non-executive Director of Sun Retail Pty Ltd, Stanwell Corporation Limited and Sun Gas Retail Pty Ltd. Dr Watson is a Fellow of CPA Australia and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.


DOMINIC MCGANN

DIRECTOR

Dominic McGann is the Chairman of Partners of McCullough Robertson, a leading Australian law firm with 51 partners plus staff located in offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle.  Prior to joining the firm in 1996, Dominic held prominent positions with the Queensland Government for seven years and is one of only a few lawyers with a combination of significant senior government experience as well as private practice experience.  Dominic's extensive experience in communicating and negotiating with indigenous communities, positions him as one of Australia’s leading experts in this field. 

Dominic is also the Chair of the McCullough Robertson Foundation, Chair of Uplit (formerly Brisbane Writer’s Festival) , a director of Flagship Investments Limited,  a Governor of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM),  a  Trustee of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) and a Councillor of the Queensland Futures Institute.
