Kirsten commenced working for the Translational Research Institute shortly after its incorporation in 2009.  Admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and an attorney of the State Bar of California, Kirsten has extensive experience as both a General Counsel and Company Secretary.  As General Counsel and Company Secretary for the Translational Research Institute, Kirsten is responsible for managing the organisation’s legal requirements and providing legal advice to the Board and management across a range of areas including intellectual property, employment law, commercial contract, construction, property and procurement.  Kirsten was previously General Counsel and Company Secretary of the CRC for Sustainable Tourism, which was Australian tourism’s scientific and strategic research organisation.

Prior to becoming a Company Secretary, Kirsten worked as a senior consultant for Effective Governance providing advice to clients on good corporate governance practices, ranging from advice on a specific governance issue to the implementation of a complete governance system. Kirsten has also worked as a corporate lawyer in private practice in both Australia and the United States providing advice on a range of legal transactions and issues including general commercial matters, mergers and acquisitions, raising funds either privately or through a stock exchange and the implementation of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. She remains a member of the State Bar of California as well as the Queensland Law Society.

Kirsten has co-authored three publications on compliance with ASX and APRA corporate governance requirements.  She has also studied corporate governance with Chartered Secretaries Australia, completing her Certificate in Governance Practice and Administration.  Recently, Kirsten won the Computershare National Dux Award for the subject “Corporate Governance” which she studied as part of the Graduate Diploma of Applied Corporate Governance that she is currently undertaking.
